Underage in the Cage – 2011
Charlie’s Champions Foundation
Underage in the Cage
Charlie’s Champions held its annual “Underage In the Cage” kid’s paddle clinic and pizza party on Friday, March 19th at the Cherry Valley Club. Over 175 kids of all ages participated in this fun event for a great cause.
Charlie’s Champions Foundation was created by Garden City residents, Tara and John Schmitt. Their son, Charlie, who is currently a 6th grader at Garden City Middle School, was diagnosed at the age of six with leukemia. Charlie, who has battled the blood disease for six straight years, is now cancer free. He had a great afternoon with all of his friends and family.
The money that was raised during this event benefits pediatric cancer research and psychosocial healing programs at the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop University Hospital.
A big thank you to everyone who volunteered with the raffles, prizes, food and music. Thank you to Garden City Pizza for donating over 30 pies! A special thanks to Jennifer Schmitt, Tournament Director and the Underage Committee: Lisa Caluori, Sheila Connolly, Kerriann Gambino, Denise Moscatiello, Mary Beth Quinn and Debbie Scattareggia as well as our younger volunteers: Cara Adams, Taylor George, Caitlin Kaczynski, Cailee McCarthy, Kelly McDonald, Alicia Mueller and Joanna Sokolovic. We could not have done it without all of your hard work!
